Dr. Fabris was recently awarded the Engineering Outstanding Faculty Award, for her outstanding contributions to  her field, for her excellence in teaching and mentoring her students, and for her service within the university and  her profession.     Laura Fabris arrived at Rutgers in 2009, specializing in plasmonic nanoparticles with an emphasis on gold, silver,  and aluminum. Continuing to pave the way in innovation, Rutgers is launching a new program to bridge the gap between the lab and marketplace. Materials science and engineering professor Dunbar Birnie led the team that recently received a $500,000 grant to support Rutgers' inventions for the next five years through the NSF I-Corps program. According to the NSF, the I-Corps program works to bring research projects to the marketplace, thereby fostering a national ecosystem of innovation.

Ahmad Safari is recipient of the 2017 IEEE-UFFC Robert E Newnham Award for his sustained and impactful contributions in structure-property relationships of ferroelectric and piezoelectric ceramics, composites, and films. The IEEE Robert E. Newnham award is intended for international investigators in the field of dielectric, piezoelectric and multi-ferroics materials that have contributed significantly to the understanding of structure-property relations.

Materials science and engineering research associate Jennifer Lynch-Branzoi was selected as the first recipient of the Rutgers’ TechAdvance Fund. She was awarded a $100,000 grant for her project on barrier resistance in Graphene Enhanced Polymer Matrix Composites (G-PMCs). Lynch-Branzoi will investigate the permeation of small gases through G-PMCs, which potentially offer a lightweight replacement for fuel tanks and packaging applications with longer shelf lives.

Professor Ashutosh Goel has been selected as an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Applied Glass Science (IJAGS). IJAGS is a leading peer-reviewed scientific journal in the field of glass science and technology published by Wiley on the behalf of the American Ceramic Society (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)2041-1294).

 Congratulations to Jamie Wooding (Class of 2017) and Jacob Kupferberg (’17)!! They are recipients of the National Science Foundation’s 2017 Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).  Eight students from Rutgers University, four of those from the School of Engineering, received this award.

Professor Akdogan was once again awarded “Professor of the Year” by the Engineering Governing Council (EGC) for the academic year 2016/2017.  The EGC is a student run engineering governing body that works with the faculty and administration to represent the interests of the engineering students here at Rutgers.   The “Professor of the Year” award is presented in April at their annual Leadership Conference.
